من الغريب أن جزيرة كورفو لا تعطي انطباعاً يونانياً على الإطلاق بوجود حصنها الفينيسي، وقصورها البريطانية، والممشى ذو الطراز الفرنسي المصمم على غرار شارع ريفولي في باريس. كما تعد من أكثر الجزر حداثة واكتظاظاً بالسكّان بين الجزر الأيونية، حيث تضج بأناس من جنسيّات مختلفة وفنون عمارة أجنبية. ذُكرت كورفو في إحدى الأساطير على أنها الجزيرة التي التقى فيها أوديسيوس، الذي نجى من غرق السفينة، بأميرته المحبوبة نوسيكا، كما يدّعي بعض السكان المحليين بأنها كانت أيضاً الجزيرة الصغيرة السحرية التي ذكرها شكسبير في روايته "العاصفة". بلدة كورفو صغيرة ومبهجة، ومع ذلك تعد من أكبر وأهم البلدات على الجزيرة، حيث يوجد فيها المطار الدولي، كما تطوف معظم السفن في مينائها، وترسو العبّارات القادمة من مسافات بعيدة في رصيفها. يُعتبر الحصن القديم أحد رموز المدينة التي تمّ بناءها من قبل سكّان البندقية عام 1546 للميلاد في موقع القلعة البيزنطية، ويفصله خندق عن باقي أجزاء المدينة. أمّا المدينة القديمة فهي عبارة عن متاهة من الشوارع الضيّقة التي يقع فيها الحصن الذي يعود تاريخه إلى القرن السادس عشر، حيث يمكنك أن تجد عند كل زاوية من المدينة معبداً صغيراً أو منزلاً قديماً أو ساحة سريّة تابعة لإحدى الحدائق، كما نجد بين الحصن القديم والمدينة القديمة ممشى ذو طراز فرنسي، يعتبر من أجمل الشوارع في اليونان، ويشتهر بقناطره وكثرة مقاهيه. يتميز قصر أخيليون بموقع مثالي في قرية غاستوري الجميلة، على بعد 10 كيلومترات جنوب مركز المدينة؛ كان هذا القصر مقر الإقامة المعتاد للإمبراطورة سيسي خلال فصل الصيف بين عامي 1890 و1898 للميلاد، ويطل هذا البناء الجميل وحدائقه ذات المناظر الطبيعية الأخّاذة على البحر ومدينة كورفو. أما على قمة الجزيرة الشمالية الشرقية، فيقع منتجع سيداري الحيوي ، ويتألّف بالأصل من قريتين ساحليتين متصلتين بشاطئ رملي طويل عارم. تُعتبر شبه جزيرة كانوني، بوجود الدير الخاص بالنساء الذي يعود تاريخه إلى القرن السابع عشر، واحدة من أهم رموز كورفو الشهيرة، كما يمكن رؤيتها على العديد من البطاقات البريدية المرسلة منها. يمكنك الانتقال عبر قارب صغير من شبه جزيرة كانوني الصغيرة نحو أي جزيرة أخرى، كجزيرة ماوس أو بونتيكونيسي. من حيث فن العمارة، فيتنوع في كورفو متأثراً بالحضارات المتعددة التي قطنت الجزيرة على مر الزمن. لقد جعلت الجولات السياحية المنظمة أجزاء من الجزيرة تخسر بعضاً من جمالها، في حين مازالت أغلب أجزائها الأخرى تحتوي على بساتين الزيتون والجبال والغابات. تعتبر مدينة كورفو ساحرة وأنيقة، ومن السهل رؤية سبب ذلك عند التجوّل عبر شوارعها وأزقتها الضيّقة، والمرور بساحاتها الواسعة، وزيارة الكنائس البيزنطية والمعالم التي تركها سكّان البندقية، وبالطبع لا ننسى جمالها الطبيعي، الذي يتمثّل بمياهها ذات اللون الأزرق الفيروزي المحيط بالمدينة.
